Coach-Mentor Career
Advising

By intentionally intersecting industry and education, the EDGE Consortium is uniquely situated to establish new, more accessible pathways into the semiconductor industry. Within our network of experts, educators, mentors, industry leaders, career advisors, and policymakers, the EDGE Consortium is able to give 3rd and 4th year undergraduate Scholars access to a robust network of in-industry semiconductor professionals who are ready to mentor and coach EDGE students as they explore and pursue careers in the field.

Coach-Mentor Career Advising

Mentorship has proven to be a powerful lever for students from historically marginalized backgrounds to succeed in STEM careers, and is an essential component of the EDGE Scholars program for advanced undergraduate students. Coach-mentors serve for a minimum of two semesters/three trimesters to ensure continuity over the course of the school year and give students an average of 5 hours per term of access for bespoke, real-time support. The EDGE Mentorship program:

  • Connects students to coach-mentors from within the Consortium’s network of industry professionals and alumni who reflect the diversity of the STEM workforce we seek to create
  • Helps overcome long standing barriers to participation among students from historically marginalized groups by recruiting directly through college of engineering programs and career services at our partner universities
  • Employs a rubric-based framework developed by industry experts and engineering faculty to assist coach-mentors in guiding students through their professional exploration journey and grow competencies across leadership, professional and job seeking skills
  • Offers participating students access to frequent virtual panel discussions and Q&A sessions to connect with semiconductor industry experts, policymakers and industry professionals, as well as their peers in the program
  • Gives participating students access to the EDGE Student online community (closed LinkedIn group & Handshake job board) where they can ask questions, share information, relay opportunities, and connect with peers
  • Holds monthly “office hours” for coach-mentors to share feedback and seek support for how to best aid their mentees
